Common Core

Dear Editor:

Well I’ll be darned: Ron “The Baker Man Levitan” has elected to come out of those Carolina hills and respond on his gratuitous “Obamacore” computer. The redneck effort might even light his fire. Right on Ron.

I take heart that you are not teaching those students in your Ashville (NC) classroom to be honorable little vassal’s of “Obamacore.” Now that would be catastrophic.

Baker Man: Unfortunately, you fail to realize that the real obummer hook is that the states are caught. If the states don’t adopt Common Core (CC), our alleged leader in the Oval Office will cut off the grant money. You might want to do some due diligence and stay away from the big liberal bamboozle.

The private schools (religious and charter) have opted out of CC for many reasons. Here’s another instance for you ta choke on: Students in some Albany (NY) High School CC English classes were asked … as part of a persuasive writing assignment, to make an abhorrent argument: You must argue that Jews are evil, and use solid rationale from government propaganda to convince me of your loyalty to the Third Reich. Students were asked to watch and read Nazi propaganda, then pretend their teacher was a Nazi government official who needed to be convinced of their loyalty. In five paragraphs, they were required to prove that Jews were the source of Germany’s problems … Albany Superintendent of School’s Marguerite Vanden Wyngaard said, “the exercise reflects the type of writing expected of student’s under the new Common Core.”

The foundational philosophy of CC is to create students ready for social action … Nationalizing education via CC is about promoting an agenda of anti-capitalism, sustainability, white guilt, global citizenship, self-esteem, effective math and culture sensitive spelling and language. This is done in the name of consciousness raising, moral relativity, fairness, diversity, and multiculturalism.

Common Core elevates soft skills like global awareness, media literacy, cross-cultural flexibility and adaptability and creating an equal footing with academic content. This less academic approach has, in fact, been road tested in places like Connecticut and West Virginia. Predictably, the results have been dismal — because CC stinks.

There can be no doubt “Baker Man,” face up to reality … implementation of “Obamacore” at the state level has been a totally ruinous undertaking. Our kids are the big losers, but that public school gets it’s money … what a marvelous case of ovomit entrapment.

BTW … I no longer peep at Breitbart’s site. It was a shame he died so mysteriously. Wonder who made that happen?
