Club 20, most known as the “Voice of the Western Slope,” will be holding its county caucuses in Archuleta County on Sept. 28 at Boss Hoggs Restaurant at 11:30 a.m.
For Archuleta County, the caucus is held every even year. At that time, a board member and two alternates are selected to represent the county on the Club 20 board of directors for the two-year period. Each county is allowed one vote at the biannual board of directors meetings.
At the caucus, Club 20 members and nonmembers are invited to attend and learn more about the organization as well as learn more about the state ballot measures coming up in November.
Club 20 is a membership-based organization made up of counties, communities, businesses, associations and individuals on the Western Slope of Colorado. Its interests span a range of issues that affect western Colorado.
It has 10 policy committees consisting of transportation, telecommunications, business affairs, health care, education and workforce development, water tourism, public lands and natural resources, agriculture and energy. Membership to these committees is open to all Club 20 members and the groups recommend policy to the full board.
At the caucus on Sept. 28, interested individuals can attend and learn more about the state ballot issues. You can hear Club 20’s position on the measures or if it has taken a position.
There are some important ballot measures this year including Proposition 110 — transportation funding, Amendments Y and Z regarding congressional and legislative redistricting, Initiative 97 which involves setback requirements for oil and gas development, and Amendment 73 regarding funding for public schools.
Regardless if you are a Club 20 member or not, this meeting should prove to be a very informative session, especially on issues where we may not see what impact it would have in our county. There is no cost to attend the meeting except that lunch will be at your own expense.
Come and find out more about Club 20, how your business might get involved and find out more about pressing issues in the state of Colorado. Questions concerning the caucus can be directed to Mary Jo Coulehan at 264-2360.
