Pagosa Sheep Grazing Analysis

On September 2, 2010, the Responsible Official, District Ranger Kevin Khung made the decision to close 14 vacant sheep allotments to domestic sheep grazing within the Pagosa Sheep Grazing Analysis Area. The allotments to be closed are the Beaver-Rainbow, Deadman Turkey, First Fork, Fish Lake, Hossick Canyon/Middle Fork, Needles, Oil Mountain, Peak, Red Mountain, Saddle Mountain, Sand Creek, Summit, Sheep Mountain, and Weminuche Sheep. In addition, this decision will designate 2 vacant sheep allotments as forage reserves that will be available for domestic sheep grazing, and will incorporate adaptive management strategies and monitoring to reach or maintain desired resource outcomes. The allotments that will be designated as forage reserves are the Bonito Crater and Treasure Allotments.
The Pagosa Sheep Grazing Analysis Area is north, east and southeast of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, located in portions of Townships 33-39 North, Ranges 1 - 3 East, and 1-5 West, N.M.P.M. The Decision Notice and Environmental Assessment are available for review upon request from the Pagosa Ranger District, P.O. Box 310, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147, (970) 264-1526.
Appeal Rights
This Forest Service decision is subject to administrative review (appeal) pursuant to 36 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 215.
Appeals (including attachments) must be in writing and filed with the Appeal Deciding Officer within 45 days following the date of publication of a legal notice of this decision in the newspaper of record. Attachments received after the 45 day appeal period will not be considered. The publication date of the legal notice in the newspaper of record is the exclusive means for calculating the time to file an appeal. Those wishing to appeal should not rely upon dates or timeframe information provided by any other source.
