The people spoke, and the Humane Society listened!

Due to repeated requests to have the Humane Society Chocolate Auction on the weekend, this popular fund-raiser will move from a Wednesday night Chamber SunDowner to a Saturday night stand alone event and tickets are now available to all.

This year, the Chocolate Auction will be held on Saturday, March 16, at the Pagosa Youth Center, which will only be accessible through the Humane Society Thrift Store.

This very popular adult event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with socializing and viewing of the decadent chocolate creations that will be up for bid. A seated, lasagna dinner will be served followed by dessert and the auction of beautiful and delicious chocolate creations such as the cake on the Preview cover made by Kathy Keyes at Pagosa Baking Company for a previous auction.

A cash bar featuring bottled beer, a wine selection and soft drinks will be available all evening. Background music will be provided by “DJ Dude”, Mike Hayward, and auctioneer Jake Montroy will preside over the auction portion of the event.

Tickets are only $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Humane Society Thrift Store, the Chamber of Commerce, and at Higher Grounds Coffee. A limited number of tickets are available, and any remaining tickets will be sold at the door for $15 each.

Incredible chocolate desserts, some of them special works of art, donated by local caterers, bakers, candy stores, chefs and restaurants, will be auctioned off to raise funds to help offset the daily operating costs of the community’s only animal shelter. The Chocolate Auction is a wonderful way to have a fun-filled evening and provide support to the animals by successfully bidding on rich and decadent chocolate confections.

The Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in need of your support, as it does not receive any funding from the Humane Society of the United States, American Humane, the ASPCA or United Way. The Humane Society relies on revenue from private donations, the Thrift Store, and through fund-raisers such as the Chocolate Auction to operate the community’s only animal shelter and keep our community free of wandering dogs and cats. It also provides a community service by operating the Thrift Store downtown and providing services for people and their four legged friends through various aspects of the Animal Shelter including educational programs.
