Chimney Rock National Monument holds volunteer open house

Special to The PREVIEW

Chimney Rock Interpretive Association (CRIA) invites community members to come to the annual Chimney Rock National Monument Open House at Quality Resort, located at 3505 W. U.S. 160 from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, March 28.

As CRIA gears up for the 2014 season, priorities shift toward the most important preparations for the season — volunteer recruitment. Since CRIA is primarily staffed with volunteers, it is essential to the program’s success that the volunteer corps remains strong in skills and numbers. Without the volunteers’ skills and valuable time, it would be impossible to keep this local, nonprofit, interpretive program viable and the gates to Chimney Rock open.

There will be a host of CRIA volunteers on hand at the open house who are eager to introduce guests to the variety of roles that support this unique program and the flexibility in level of commitment. Some of the volunteer positions include: cabin host, tour guide, interpretive host and maintenance crew.

For more information, stop by the Chimney Rock Open House and enjoy luscious desserts, meet the enthusiastic volunteers and enter a drawing to win two Chimney Rock National Monument 2014 daily tour season passes, four tickets to any of the 2014 Night Sky Programs and a Vision of Chimney Rock book. We are very excited for the upcoming season, starting May 15 and want to encourage the community to join us.

CRIA operates in partnership with the USDA Forest Service and the San Juan National Forest. For more information and to view the 2014 Chimney Rock calendar of events, view the CRIA website at or call 731-7133.
