San Juan Basin Health’s Southwest Smile Makers dental program recently received funding from the Colorado Health Foundation.
Southwest Smile Makers provides comprehensive dental care for children from lower income and working families at its office in The Commons Building in Durango. Additionally, the program provides dental screenings and fluoride for all students at 11 elementary schools and three Head Start schools throughout La Plata, Archuleta and San Juan counties.
The grant award of $98,222 over two years will assist Smile Makers in continuing to provide this care so crucial to children’s health and success at school. Colorado Health Foundation invests in grants and initiatives to health-related nonprofits in three community outcome areas: Healthy Living, Health Coverage and Health Care.
Southwest Smile Makers can be reached at 385-4480 or sjbhd.org/smilemakers.
