The start of league play was a tough one for the No. 25 Pagosa Springs High School Pirate basketball team as it dropped two home games to the No. 12 Montezuma-Cortez Panthers (8-3 overall, 2-0 in league play) on Jan. 17 and the No. 1 Centauri Falcons (11-0 overall, 2-0 in league play) on Jan. 18.

Lewis finished the night with a team-high 16 points to go along with four rebounds and six assists. The Pirates got the job done against the Lions as well, earning a 57-44 win to push the team’s overall record to 5-3. Pagosa will look to add another win on the road on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. against the 2A Sanford Indians.

To kick off the new year, the Pagosa Springs High School Pirate boys’ basketball team split in games against the Eaton Reds (8-1 overall) and the Colorado Springs Christian Lions (4-3 overall) at the Wolf Creek Classic on Jan. 3 and Jan. 4.
