Cards of Thanks

Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Colorado enjoyed a rafting trip with Wilderness Journeys-Pagosa Rafting Company recently. The weather was amazing, the water was running high and made for a great day on the water. We had three rafts and the guides — Stacy, Julie and Lindsey  — were so skilled and showed us a wonderful day in Pagosa Country. Thank you, Wayne, Nancy, Lindsey, Julie and Stacy, for a truly great day on the water.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Colorado would also like to thank Photos by Griselda for taking photos of our 2014 rafting trip. They took group photos and pictures of each boat as we were launching. We truly appreciate your support.

XTERRA race

GECKO extends a huge and heartfelt thank you to the generous Pagosans who helped to stage the XTERRA Turkey Track Trail Race on Saturday without a hitch.

Volunteers are essential to GECKO’s success, and Saturday’s 57 volunteers did Pagosa proud. Thanks also goes to the Parelli staff; Pagosa Trail Riders (ATV) and Scott Anderson and the Pirate cross country team who manned aid stations for us; as well as Higher Grounds Coffee; Durango Coke; Pagosa Baking Company; Gosar Ranch and DSP Pizzeria which provided coffee and delicious baked goods for our hungry athletes. To Tessie Garcia and Scott Slind for the medals and trophies; SARS for medical support; Paul Blackman and USFS for their cooperation and support on the trails;  VisitPagosa.com for equipment and Pagosa Brewing Company for hosting the after party. Finally, to GECKO’s generous corporate sponsors whose support makes this all possible.

Book Fair

Thank you to all of the students, teachers, parents, relatives and friends who shopped at the Book Fair and for all the excitement about the event. The “Book Fair Fiesta!” held at Pagosa Springs Elementary School in May was an outstanding success. Gross sales were $8,534 that will translate into approximately $1,973 of profit. Additionally, the school library received $512 worth of new books.

It would be impossible to put on this two-week event without all of our willing and able volunteers. Huge gratitude goes to 31 individuals who decorated, unpacked and packed boxes, sorted books and staffed the cash register: Kendra Bridges, Stacie Castro, Becky Deitemeyer, Jean Garcia, Stacey Harmon, Chelsea Hill, Becky Jacobson, Laura Jenkins, Kelly Laner, Aubrie Limebrook, Jan Lewis, Sarah Martin, Debbie Mackey, Tiffany Martin, Carole Nasralla, Sanya Peterson, Greg Pilgrim, Connie Prunty, Jessica Quick, Erin Richey, Dawn Robel, Tamsin Rohrich, Lisa Scott, Diana Scott, Ginger Smith, Gwen Taylor, Kelli Young, Cory Warden, Janell Wood, Michelle Zeigler and Becky Ziminsky.

The Fiesta Family Night was a huge success, with over 375 students and families attending the festivities, which included a fiesta dinner, mariachi band, crafts and shopping.

We’d also like to thank the school custodians Jack Constant and Barbara Martinez and office secretaries Jackie Hart-Trujillo and Karyn Smith for their assistance outside of their regular duties. Thanks to everyone for making this school event so successful.
