It has been a whirlwind the past few weeks. On the first of the month, I shot a wedding in South Fork for a great couple from Kansas. Shortly thereafter, I welcomed a new addition to my home — a 27” iMac, to handle the increased amount of photo processing work I’ve been doing. Between having a new puppy, tearing up the yard and reseeding, processing the wedding photos and selling our winter Pagosa Springs Official Visitor Guide™, I’ve also managed to find some time to help out with the guys’ high school soccer team. The photo blog has been put on the back burner.
Last week, while at the airport, I overheard some talk about the meteor showers that could be seen starting that night. As is turns out that night was supposedly the peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower that can be seen annually about this time of year. Later that night I drove out to the airport to do some viewing of the northern skies and found the airport’s beacon light to be a bit of a nuisance in my search for shooting stars. About 45 minutes later, and many failed viewing spots later; I found a spot on the edge of Hatcher Lake. With my eyes on the north I dug out my camera and set it to the south where the Milky Way was more visible, along with some lightning that was flashing behind the trees. I was pleasantly surprised after viewing the frames when I got home: I had actually captured one of the meteors passing through the Milky Way.
As for the wedding that I shot, we were extremely lucky that it happened to be the one day in a two-week span that we didn’t have rain during the day, and the outdoor wedding turned out great. I’ll post more photos of Kip and Ashley’s wedding day on my personal photography site, hopefully in the next week or so. In the meantime, here are a few that I liked and sent them to tease them a bit before the final stuff arrives:
