| Events are a terrific place to capture great photos, especially events as fun and unusual as Pagosa’s annual Cruise-A-Thong race. Four-member teams of contestants battle for a mediocre performance and the most average time in a three-stage race that consists of a cruiser bike ride, flip-flop foot race, and river tube race. This year’s race is preceded by a Bloody Mary contest and is set to take place this Saturday, July 25, at 11 a.m.
There’s only so much planning you can do for an event like this. My planning for this shot consisted of me wearing a pair of board-short swim trunks and river sandals, then doing some very careful wading into the middle of the San Juan River. If you want a unique shot of a kayaker, tube rider, or other water sport what’s a better way than to get into the water?
