Monday Random Shuffle: Hellbilly DeLuxe edition
Tue, Jun 8, 2010
Headed up the hill this weekend to mix it up with the engineer cap and granny dress crowd, baking in an uncharacteristically early-June heatwave. The beer tent was in heavy rotation, unsurprisingly.

Not exactly my style of music — it’s like Chinese Opera to me — so you won’t get any seering or soaring reviews from me. However, loves me some live music and I have to say I was rather impressed with the Belleville Outfit. Moving well outside the strum-and-thump of the usual folk and bluegrass fodder, those guys actually rocked. I’m going to seek them out and drop them on my pod.

Speaking of which, in the spirit of pumping a little life into our online presence, I’m indulging in a threadbare Internet tradition: Putting my pod on shuffle and presenting the first ten songs that appear. I know, hackneyed and uninspired but I’d love to see what appears on our readers pods (I’ll start a thread on the message board to those ends).

No cheating — I’ll list my embarrassing choices and I expect the same candor from any willing participants. And so, without further ado, here’s this week’s Random 10:

Rolling Stones — Honky Tonk Woman.

Hilton Ruiz — Steppin’ With TP.

King Khan & the Shrines — (How Can I Keep You) Outta’ Har.

Johnny Dread — Rootsman Dread.

Girls — Summertime.

Superchunk — Like a Fool.

Spoon — I Saw the Light.

Lily Allen — The Fear.

Tom Waits — What’s He Building?

Built To Spill — Stop the Show.

And because we all need a little something extra on a Monday, here’s the bonus cut:

The Charlatans — Codine.

And another, just because it came up and I am totally crazy about this band:

Sleigh Bells — Riot Rhythm.

Now go it and let us know what you’re listening to, whether you want to hear it or not.
