Dear Editor:

Did you know that Big Brothers Big Sisters is here in Pagosa? I am here to tell you that it is a great organization and I encourage you to get involved. BBBS is a donor-based, volunteer-supported organization that matches adults and children in a one-to-one mentoring relationship. They operate a community based program that offers children and volunteers both an opportunity to succeed.

I have been involved with BBBS for over five years, having my three children in the program. Their bigs are awesome! My children have become more confident and have more of an interest in school. They have been exposed to many different activities through the organization and they are learning many things that I would not have been able to teach them. All of my children are very close to their mentors, developing incredible friendships. My son has been matched the longest, just over five years now and he keeps in touch with his big couple even when they are traveling. They call and send postcards and letters. I think that is amazing of her to do. Even though my daughter’s big has moved to Durango, she still takes time to come to Pagosa Springs as much as possible. Even if she cannot come here, she calls my daughter every week. I think that it is amazing how my kids have blossomed in the program.

They are always looking for volunteers to positively impact the life of a child. Please step up and positively impact your life as well. Call Big Brothers Big Sisters today.
