Audition for ‘Pippin’ on April 26

Special to The PREVIEW

It’s time to brush up on your favorite song, get out your dancing shoes and get ready to audition for this summer’s high-spirited Curtains Up Pagosa! musical, “Pippin.”

Auditions will take place in the Pagosa Springs High School music room beginning at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 26.

The production, directed by Dale Johnson and Sally Neel, is scheduled for June 28, 29 and 30 and July 3, 5 and 6 in the Pagosa Springs High School auditorium. Don’t miss out on this fun opportunity to put on the grease paint, don the costumes, sing, dance, and have fun with a great group of people.

No prior experience is required to audition. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring sheet music and be prepared to sing about 32 measures of your favorite song. You will also be taught a few dance steps to perform with a group.

“Pippin” has a cast of 25-30 players (one male child, high school students, and adults) that includes the leading roles of Pippin, his father, Charles (Charlemagne), his mother, Fastrada, his grandmother, Berthe, his girlfriend, Catherine, his brother, Lewis, and the Narrator (Leading Player). There are also supporting roles in the Band of Players. Please note that we will be casting one young boy around age 10.

Curtains Up Pagosa! is also looking for musicians for the pit orchestra. If you are interested in playing, contact Sally Neel, 946-6458, or sneel1@sbcglobal.net.

CUP is known for bringing first-class amateur productions to our community each summer and fall, complete with a live orchestra. The music for Pippin is ’70s rock style, written by Stephen Schwartz, and is fast-paced and full of energy. Being able to read music is required in order to play in the pit.

There are also other ways to volunteer for CUP productions. If you like to sew or design clothes, perhaps you would enjoy working with the costume crew. If you are artistic or enjoy building things, perhaps set design and construction is in your future. If you are good with electronics and sound equipment, you could be useful helping with the sound crew. Or, perhaps you have a truck and don’t mind hauling sets, costumes and props from storage to the stage. If you enjoy writing, selling, marketing, and some one-on-one with the public, ticket sales and marketing might be up your alley. Do you like to bake? CUP sells concessions for each production and is always looking for baked goods.

If you are interested in being a part of a fun team of creative people, send us a message. Go to www.pagosamusicboosters.org, or contact Sally Neel. We are always looking to add more people to our team. It is a fun and rewarding experience you will always remember.
