Aspen Springs

Dear Editor:

This is in response to Ronnie Zaday’s letter regarding Aspen Springs elections/meetings, etc. in the 4.17.14 issue of The SUN.

I have lived in Aspen Springs for 12 years. In all that time, I never received any type of notification that the Metro District was looking for people to run for the Board of Directors. It was not until March 2013 that I became aware there would be an election for the Board of Directors in May 2014. There was never any type of communication to the residents of Aspen Springs about any previous elections.

The Metro District may have posted a notice in The SUN in the Public Notice section of an edition at some time, and that might have been all that was required. But, for one to actually see that notice is a whole other story. There should have been a mailing to all the residents of Aspen Springs at any time something of that importance was happening. It seems that the Board never has wanted any of the residents to know what was going on. That pertains to more than just elections. There always has been a lack of communication from a Board that is supposed to work for “We the People,” the residents of Aspen Springs, and not the agenda of a select few.

As a resident of Aspen Springs for over 20 years, I take issue with Ms. Seale’s assertions. The idea that the ASMD should send out mailings to a constantly changing list of property owners and residents of Aspen Springs regarding matters that are easily accessible to anyone who takes the time to inquire would be a huge expense to the District in both money and human resources. I was guilty of being an uninformed resident of the ASMD for many years. I never went to the monthly meeting, I had no idea who the Board members were, I did not look for postings at the metro building or items put in the local paper. Probably because I was satisfied with the services being provided by the ASMD. But in any event my lack of information regarding the District was MY FAULT not the District’s. For the past three years I have been in attendance at most all of the monthly meetings. In those three years I have seen several changes in the faces on the Board. Never have I seen one Director leave and another person appointed to fill the vacancy that the remaining Directors did not do everything within reason to notify potentially interested candidates. The level of apathy among the Aspen Springs owners/residents has been consistently very high. That is not the fault or responsibility of the ASMD. Perhaps the high level of apathy by most of the owners/residents is for the same reason that I put no effort in being informed for the first 17 years of my ownership of an Aspen Springs home ….. Most people are happy with the job the ASMD and its’ two employees have been doing.
