Archuleta County Fair

fair-cover-use-DSC_3219It’s finally here. The Archuleta County Fair starts today, July 31, and runs through Sunday, Aug. 3.

Fun family events are scheduled throughout the four-day event, so bring your family, friends and neighbors and come on down to the Archuleta County Fairgrounds near U.S. 84 and 160.

The entrance fee for adults is only $3 per day or $9 for the weekend, and for youth under 12, the cost is $2 per day or $6 for a weekend pass.

Don’t miss the Chuckwagon Dinner on Saturday night from 4:30-6:30 p.m. All proceeds support the 4-H program in Archuleta County. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth under 12 and may be purchased at the gate. Dinner includes BBQ brisket and sausage, cowboy beans, potato salad, green salad, dinner rolls, peach cobbler and beverage.

Every day

9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. — Blindfolded Lawn Mower Race.

9 a.m.-5 p.m. — Fairgrounds: Cowboy Fast Draw.

9 a.m.-6 p.m. — Kids ride the train free/Kid Games Tent.

9 a.m.-5 p.m. — Petting farm.

9 a.m.-5 p.m. — Cow Plop Bingo.

9 a.m.-5 p.m — Education Tent.

9 a.m.-5 p.m. — Vendors/food.

Thursday, July 31

7:30-9 a.m. — Exhibit Hall: Open Class Perishables (baked goods, floriculture, horticulture) received.

8 a.m. — Livestock Tent: Goat Shows; 4-H, Open and Showmanship.

8 a.m. — Junk Yard Jamboree/Tractor Show entries come in.

9 a.m. — Fairgrounds: Cowboy Fast Draw: Championship match begins.

11 a.m. — Activity Tent: Beer garden opens.

Noon — Livestock Tent: Lamb Show; 4-H, Open and Showmanship.

2 p.m. — Activity Tent: 4-H Dog Show.

2 p.m. — Livestock Tent: 4-H Turkey Show and Showmanship.

5 p.m. — Rodeo Arena: Parelli Natural Horsemanship exhibition.

9 a.m. — All other animals loaded on semi truck.

9 a.m. — Education Tent and Exhibit Hall open.

9 a.m. — Rodeo Arena: Kids’ Rodeo late registration.

9 a.m. — Fairgrounds: Vendors open.

10 a.m. — Activity Tent: Homemade ice cream contestants arrive.

11 a.m. — Education Tent: Parelli demo.

1 p.m. — Activity Tent: Junkyard Jamboree judging sheets due.

1 p.m. — Education Tent: Parelli demo.

2 p.m. — Homemade ice cream contest samples open to the public.

2 p.m. — Homemade ice cream contest judging begins.

4-6 p.m. — Exhibit Hall:  Release of open class projects to entrants and premiums paid.

4-6 p.m. — Stith Room:  Release of 4-H class projects to entrants.

6 p.m. — Fair closes.

Check the Bill of Fair at the information booth for the latest event additions and updates.  There will be various demonstrations each day, as well as contests and events that are not listed in the Fair Book.

CPR and first aid

CPR and first aid certification classes are offered monthly by the CSU Extension office on the second Monday and Wednesday of each month from 6-10 p.m. Anyone needing to receive or renew certification can register by calling the Extension office at 264-5931.

We will also schedule classes on additional dates with five or more registrations. Cost for the classes are $80 for combined CPR/first aid and $55 for individual CPR or first aid. The type of first aid information provided will vary by the needs of the audience. Group rates are available. Call the Extension office for information at 264-5931.
