Paul William Peterson was born to John Victor and Goldie Peterson on Sept. 7, 1920. He was called home on Aug. 9, 2012, at the age of almost 92.
He married Mary Margaret Grimes on June 1, 1946. They had two sons, Dale and Dean.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Goldie, his wife “Margy,” his son Dean, his brother Aubrey and his sisters Alice, Stella and Lucille.
He is survived by his brother Jack Peterson and his wife Mary, his sisters-in-law Ivy Gains and Virginia Kleckner, his son Dale Peterson and wife Pam, his grandson Heath Peterson and fiancée Amy, his granddaughter Rebeccah Apodaca and husband Russell, his grandsons Justin and Michael Apodaca, his daughter-in-law Jennie Peterson, granddaughters Brandi Peterson, Amanda Howell and husband Chip, and his great-grandson Landon Howell.
He is survived by many other nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
He was former resident of Durango, Bayfield, Ignacio and Pagosa Springs. He enjoyed being a rancher and a ranch foreman for all of his working life, being one of the last “real cowboys” and, until about three years ago, worked at the sale barns in Aztec, Kirtland and Breen. He also served as a paratrooper in WW II, jumping into many battles including the Normandy D-Day battle. His family, as well as many other Americans, thank him for keeping us free and safe.
His patriotism and love of family and friends will be greatly missed.
Paul lived a good, full, long life, and his Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, in the Chapel at Bloomfield First Baptist Church at 10 a.m., with Pastor Lamar Morin officiating. The address is 200 W. Sycamore, Bloomfield, N.M.
