On Aug. 24, the Humane Society of Pagosa Springs will host its 18th annual Auction for the Animals fund-raiser at the Ross Aragon Community Center.
It will be a fabulous evening, with delicious hors d’oeuvres, fine wine and brewery beer and a chance to walk away with fabulous items from the live and silent auctions and brown bag raffle. This community event is the Humane Society’s largest and most important fund-raising endeavor of the year, so mark your calendar now and make plans to attend a truly fun evening.
Attendees at the Auction for the Animals can bid on items donated by merchants and resorts, private individuals, authors, artists and musicians, and actors and sports celebrities from around the country. Advance tickets will remain $25 for the sixth consecutive year and will go on sale soon.
The Humane Society of Pagosa Springs is a private non-profit organization that operates the only animal shelter in Archuleta County. The society had a very modest beginning in 1984 and has come a long way since that time. We moved into a new and larger animal shelter in 2007, and we continue to hold annual fund-raisers to support the important work of the organization. Our local Humane Society does not receive funding from the Humane Society of the United States, American Humane, the ASPCA or any other national animal welfare organization. Private donations, grants and thrift store revenues cover only two-thirds of our budget. Most of the remainder of our operating expenses must be met through fund-raising events like the Auction for the Animals.
Examples of some of the exciting auction items we have this year include hotel packages at the Sheraton Hacienda del Mar Golf and Spa Resort in Cabo, Mexico, the Atlantis Casino Resort in Reno and the Buffalo Thunder Resort and Casino in Santa Fe. We will also be auctioning two autographed Dallas Cowboys helmets, one signed by Hall of Fame inductee Troy Aikman and the other by Heisman Trophy winner and Hall of Famer Roger Staubach. Other auction items include a custom-made saddle and saddle stand, a Charles Daly 12 gauge over .223 caliber, a limited edition Texas Hold’em boxed Smith and Wesson custom engraved gun and many more intriguing items.
Board members and volunteers donate their time and talents to handle all fund-raising efforts by the organization, and money raised through the Auction for the Animals directly benefits the homeless dogs and cats in our community. The Humane Society of Pagosa Springs is a 501(c) 3 charitable organization and auction donations are tax deductible.
