The Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts Summer Concert Series presents outstanding singer and guitarist from New Mexico, Andrew Dahl-Bredine, at 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 31.
Advanced tickets for $18 are available at www.pagosacenter.org or by calling 731-SHOW (7469). Tickets at the door are $25.
In Brazil, the word “bossa” is slang for doing something with particular charm, natural flair or innate ability — an apt description for the music of Andrew Dahl-Bredine, a charming artist whose natural flair and obvious innate abilities have propelled him to the forefront of this popular music genre. If bossa nova were Dahl-Bredine’s sole musical focus it would be enough — but you’re in for a treat, because it’s icing on the cake. The offerings of this highly creative artist have been influenced by his musical studies in Brazil, Spain, India, the Middle East and Latin America.
“Andrew’s concert was one of the most enjoyable we have presented at the center,” says director Laura Moore. “Andrew’s concert last year at the center was like a breath of fresh air or a cool drink of spring water. “Our audience was drawn in by Andrew’s wide variety — his original songwriting and singing in several languages — and his honest sincerity as performer. His music transported us so delightfully from our everyday lives, and we knew we wanted to have him back.”
Dahl-Bredine, from Silver City, N.M., says he makes his living, “performing music, teaching, writing songs, working with kids through music and nature, and living and rediscovering a life closely intertwined with the wild natural world.” He has composed over 60 original songs, many of them available on his five CDs.
The following concert, Tuesday, Aug. 7, features a colorful performance by local musicians Paul and Carla Roberts who perform on a fascinating collection of instruments from around the world. Performing with the Roberts will be vocalists Tiffany and Matthew Lowell Brunson, percussionist Jeffrey Heintzleman and international folkdancer Zefer. The series continues every Tuesday through Aug. 28.
The PSCA Summer Concert Series is produced by the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts in collaboration with Elation Center for the Arts.
