Athletes representing the Pagosa Lakes Porpoises Swim Team traveled to Montrose last weekend in a final attempt to qualify for the Western Slope Championships (WSC).
Fabiola and V.V. Acevedo-Auli, Keanan Anderson, Katie Armbrecht, Emily Bryant and Zach Irons competed in the three-day event.
Fabiola Acevedo, competed in the girls age 9-10 division, finishing in the top five in the 50-meter free style, 100 free, 200 free, 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley.
V.V. Acevedo, age 12, placed in the top five in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 400 free, 100 fly, 200 and 400 IM.
Keanan Anderson improved his best times significantly, qualifying for the WSC in several events. Anderson competed in the 50 free, 50 back, 100 back, 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, 50 fly and 100 IM.
In the Girls Senior Division, Katie Armbrecht competed in the 50, 100 and 200 free, 400 free, 50 back, 50 and 100 fly, 100 and 200 IM, placing in the top five in each event and qualifying for the WSC.
Emily Bryant placed second in the 50 free, third in the 50 back, fourth in the 100 back, 200 back and 100 fly, and fifth in the 100, 200 and 400 free. Zach Irons represented the Male Senior Division, swimming in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 50 back, 100 back, 50 fly and 100 IM.
The Porpoises will travel to Mesa State College in Grand Junction July 20-22 to compete in the Western Slope Championships.
