This past Saturday, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Colorado helped Habitat for Humanity of Archuleta County work on one of the houses they are finishing up this June.
Habitat for Humanity builds simple, decent, affordable houses for families in need, serving those who cannot afford a conventional loan, but are able to make minimal monthly payments.
To make this happen, Habitat partners with businesses, churches, organizations and many caring individuals who work together to provide a home for a deserving family.
On Saturday, they had a few dedicated individuals using their expertise to finish the house, and Big Brothers Big Sisters was proud to participate in this organization’s efforts. Four little boys came over to help clean up outside and work on landscaping, including moving rocks and gravel. They learned about working together, division of labor, fire mitigation and what it feels like to do something really great for someone else. They all left with a wonderful feeling of accomplishment. Subway West graciously provided nourishment in the form of sandwiches for those hardworking boys.
Habitat for Humanity works hard to provide quality housing for families that would not normally be able to afford to own their own home and Big Brothers Big Sisters often works with the same families providing quality mentors for these children to positively impact their lives for a better forever.
Both of these organizations are always looking for volunteers to help improve the lives of fellow Pagosa residents. Please help us make others’ dreams come true.
