Pagosa Lakes Porpoises are gearing up for their annual Lap-A-thon event and fund-raiser. Each team member is required to participate to help in the swim team operations and swim meets over the summer.
The goal is to collect pledges for each of the laps they swim on Wednesday, June 6, from 7:30-9:30 a.m. at the Pagosa Lakes recreation center. The swimmers will be striving to complete a maximum of 200 lengths (5,000) yards in the 120 minutes.
Coaches Heather Hemphill and Tiffany Candalaria work with the swimmers all year long at the recreation center after school, and then move into summer hours in the mornings. Swim meets are scheduled around the state and give swimmers opportunities to compete in both indoor and outdoor venues. Currently, the Porpoises have 20 swim team members and are looking to expand throughout the year.
Corporate or business sponsorships are available for $100 and pledges for the swimmers can be taken by calling Joanne Irons at 946-7545.
For more information about the swim team, call the recreation center for practice times at 731-2051.
