Former Pagosa Springs residents and nationally-certified dance instructors Debbie and Richard Love are returning to Pagosa Springs for their annual visit and week of dance.
In 2000, Richard and Debbie started the local dance club, now known as Let’s Dance. The Loves danced competitively for several years and, when their trophy case was filled, they wanted to share dance with others through teaching. They now own and operate Dancing with Love in Colorado Springs. Richard and Debbie specialize in teaching ballroom, swing, Latin and nightclub dance.
During the week of May 29, they will be teaching a variety of dances: waltz, milonga and West Coast swing in Pagosa Springs.
The Loves understand how to teach adults because they also learned to dance as adults. Beginners and experienced dancers, as well as singles and couples, are welcome at all of the workshops. Richard and Debbie will simultaneously teach for two levels of skill at each of the Pagosa workshops; one level for beginners and the other for experienced dancers.
On Tuesday, May 29, from 7 to 9 p.m., the Loves will teach waltz ($10 per person).
On Friday, June 1, from 7 to 9 p.m., they will teach a Milonga workshop which will be followed by mini-Milonga (dance party). For Argentine tango dancers, the word “milonga” has three meanings. It is the name of one of the trio of dances that make up Argentine tango (tango, vals and milonga) and it is a type of music played at a type of social dance. You may be surprised to hear some of the current and alternative music that works quite well for milonga: the tango with a smile ($10 per person).
On Saturday, June 2, from 1:45 to 4:30 p.m., we’ll have a West Coast Swing workshop ($20 per person). During the evening there will be a social dance from 7:30 to 10 p.m. There is no charge for the dance for those who participate in the Saturday workshop. Otherwise, please consider giving a $5 donation for the dance.
All of the above workshops and dances are hosted by the Pagosa Let’s Dance Club and will be at the PLPOA Clubhouse at 230 Port Ave. Call Wayne Lauffer at 264-4792 for more information about these events.

The Let’s Dance Club invites you to join us during this week of dance and on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. at the PLPOA Clubhouse. Typically, we begin a new dance on the first Tuesday of each month and the classes are free. Donations are accepted to cover the costs of insurance, equipment and supplies. We look forward to dancing with you.
