Outside of raising funds and garnering operational dollars, one of the biggest concerns facing organizations these days is volunteers.
Not that organizations have problems with their volunteers, but many have a challenge obtaining enough volunteers to help out, either year-round, seasonally or for events.
Many people in this community volunteer for several organizations. Volunteers seem to cycle through or get “recycled” through the various organizations.
But many people do not know of the variety of organizations or events that we have in Pagosa or how they can volunteer. Now is the opportunity to get your organization known.
The Pagosa Springs Chamber of Commerce is spearheading a “Volunteer Recruitment Day” in conjunction with the Southwest Organization for Sustainability’s efforts on their Earth Day celebrations to inform and recruit volunteers. All interested organizations are welcome to participate. Currently there is a small core group of volunteers working to make this event happen on Saturday, April 14, in the Town Park area.
Organizations that are looking for volunteers or board members, or that want to spread the word about their group or efforts are encouraged to participate in this endeavor.
You can have a physical presence at the event with a booth. Come out and recruit people for your organization or spread the word. This will also allow you to have your organization listed in the Volunteer Recruitment Booklet.
If you cannot be at the event, you can still be listed in the organizational booklet.
Sign up for the Volunteer Recruitment Day is due by March 23. You can call the Chamber to have a form faxed to you or pick one up. Organizations will also be receiving e-mails with the form attached. Please fill the form out and determine the level at which you would like to participate. Even if you are looking for volunteers for a single event, this would be a great place to recruit.
We will be encouraging people to come out and see the variety of organizations that are in Pagosa and the ways in which people can volunteer. You can find a group or a level of engagement to meet your needs and allow you to contribute to the community. For more information about the event or to obtain a Recruitment Day form, contact the Chamber at 264-2360.
