The race is on.
Come join the Pagosa Nordic Club and Colorado Mountain Mushers for the second annual Pagosa Paw on Feb. 25 and 26 — this weekend.
This winter dog sports event includes spectacular dog sled racing combined with Nordic skiing. Races start at 9 a.m. both days and include a six-dog/six-mile sled race; a four-dog/four-mile sled race; a three-mile skijor race (dog pulls you on skis); a three-mile cani-cross race (dog pulls you on snowshoes); and a three-mile freight event (simulates a trapline where dogs pick up weight at various points and haul back to the start).
There is also a sportsman class offering a one-mile course for those who want to try the sport of racing with their dog. Dogs love this event and yours will too.
Cash prizes are awarded to winning competitive entries (based on a combined score for racing both days) and ribbons are given to sportsman participants. There will be a drawing for additional prizes.
Races will be held at the Kuhn Ranch, located eight miles north of U.S. 160 on Piedra Road. Look for the red barn at Roush Drive. The Kuhn Ranch provides a great venue for racers and spectators, with excellent views of the entire course, with Pagosa Peak as the backdrop. This is truly an exciting race to watch, so come on out and cheer on the teams.
