J. Bret Maulsby 12/10/1957-11/27/2011
On Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, J. Bret Maulsby, 53, went home to be with the Lord.
Bret began his journey into life born in Mineral Wells, Texas, and was raised in Fort Worth, Texas. He grew up playing baseball with his dad by his side as a little league coach and a longtime friend, George Daniels. Bret graduated from Eastern Hills High School in 1976. Furthering his education, Bret followed a very beloved friend by the name of Chris Crane to the University of Texas in Arlington. Bret was the biggest Texas Longhorn’s fan.
In August 1991, Bret decided to follow his father, Harold, to Pagosa Springs, Colo., to make the best life possible for is daughter, Kristen. Bret always felt Pagosa Springs was God’s country.
Bret was a very dedicated worker and loved both of his jobs. Serving 17 years with The Springs Resort and 16 years with the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Department as a Corporal Detention Officer, Bret became much known and much loved throughout this community.
Riding motorcycles, barbecuing with friends and family and raising his daughter, Kristen, were the joys of his life.
The bond between father and daughter couldn’t have been any stronger when it came to Bret and Kristen; it is a lifetime friendship and a lifetime bond that will never be broken.
He was preceded in death by his twin sisters, Phyllis and Susan Maulsby, his son, Matthew Clark Maulsby, and his mother, Joy Maulsby.
He is survived by his father, Harold Ellis Maulsby, and his daughter, Kristen Eve Maulsby.
Services for Bret Maulsby will be as follows: Viewing will be Friday, Dec. 2, from 3-8 p.m. at White’s Funeral Home; services will be Saturday, Dec. 3, at 11 a.m. at the County Extension Building; burial will immediately follow the services at Hilltop Cemetery.
Please feel free to join the family for a celebration of life potluck at the Extension Building immediately following his burial.
There is a benefit account held at First Southwest Bank under “Benefit of Bret Maulsby.”
Thank you all for the many years of support and love you all have given this family.
Harold and Kristen.
