Managing and organizing a community theater program takes a lot of hands; not just the governing board of that organization, but many hundreds of volunteers throughout the year.
Pagosa Springs Music Boosters has been a partner with the Archuleta Schools system for much of its 22-year history, and continues to extend opportunities and discover new projects between them.
The Music Boosters group has anamazing and extensive library collection of sets, props, equipment and costumes with a lending agreement that flows freely from the schools to MB and back. Everything is reused, remade and recycled to keep production costs down for shows.
Storage for these items has always been costly. Several years ago, the district agreed to give MB some space in the old bus barn for our bigger set pieces, flats and furniture. Recently, more space has become available at the bus barn for the rest of our inventory and costumes. We are thrilled at the prospect of being able to utilize more money for college scholarships, and less on paying storage costs.
On Saturday, Dec. 3, the district is cleaning out the bus barn, now filled to the brim with school furniture, desks, tables, cafeteria equipment, old golf bags, computer parts and more. We invite the public to come by at 1 p.m. Saturday to view items and haul them away. Many pieces are in good shape and need no repair, some do. We would love to see items once in our schools be taken home and used again instead of being tossed in the Dumpster.
This is a one-day opportunity; there will be no charge for these “treasures.” The old bus barn is the large metal building next to the elementary school.
