It’s that time of year, when the weather and football conspire to keep you on the couch.
But, don’t do it.
We have the perfect solution: “Go for the Turkey” a five-mile run or two-mile walk on Thanksgiving Day.
We are your carrot, your motivation, to just say “no” (for at least a couple of hours) to the endless streams of football coverage and couch potato indulgence.
Start your holiday season off right by bringing the family, friends, co-workers, you name it, to our annual Turkey Trot on Nov. 24, 10 a.m. at the Pagosa Lakes Recreation Center.
Come rain, sleet, snow or shine, the Turkey Trot is a constant.
You can register at the local Chamber of Commerce and at the Pagosa Lakes Recreation Center. Pre-registration (until today, Nov 17) is $30. Registration the day of the race is $35, with fashionable T-shirts included with each registration.
To add some additional excitement, we will have a selection of lucious baked goods, door prizes for all who enter and, best of all, the camaraderie and community spirit found at our small town events.
All proceeds go to benefit two great youth activities: Pagosa Porpoise Swim Team and the high school cross country team. Another great organization that will be joining us at the Turkey Trot this year will be “Girls on the Run,” a group geared to educating and preparing girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.
So, join us. Keep in mind that your couch will always be there, but the people of our community you connect with while out “Going for the Turkey” will be what makes the difference between a typical Thanksgiving and one to be remembered. So, come gobble with us.
