Seven burglaries have been reported in Archuleta County in the last week.
The majority of the incidents are reported to have occurred in the commercial and industrial area bounded by North Pagosa Boulevard and Vista Boulevard on the east and west, and Park Avenue and U.S. 160 on the north and south.
According to Archuleta County Undersheriff Jim Saunders, three reports were taken on Aug. 18, while four more reports were taken on Aug. 23.
On Aug. 18, burglaries at The Floured Apron (on Navajo Trail Drive) and The Tile Store (on Bastille Drive) were reported, as was a vehicle break-in on Park Avenue, Saunders said.
On Aug. 23, burglaries were reported at The Tile Store (Bastille), Pagosa Feed and Nursery (Bastille), Moore and Co.,(Park Avenue) and the FedEx storage facility (Bastille), Saunders said.
Saunders declined to give further information, citing continuing investigations into the incidents.
“The investigations are ongoing,” Saunders reported.
Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to contact either Det. Rich Valdez or Det. Lando Garcia at 264-8431.
In light of the recent property crimes in the area, Saunders offered simple advice to help protect property from burglary — lock doors and don’t leave windows open.
“A large percentage of property crimes are crimes of opportunity,” Saunders said. “Don’t provide the opportunity.”
