Authorities seek ‘person of interest’ in 2008 burglary cases

Archuleta County law enforcement officials are seeking information on the whereabouts of a person of interest in a series of 2008 burglaries in which appliances were taken from newly constructed homes.

The man also has a warrant for his arrest out of La Plata County.

Jesus Garcia, 25, is a person of interest in six burglaries in Archuleta County that were similar, as well as two within the town limits, said Det. Rich Valdez of the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office.

Valdez said he believes Garcia is out of the state, but his whereabouts are unknown.

“We try to do everything we can on the cases we have,” Valdez said.

Garcia, along with three other individuals, was arrested in November 2008 for multiple cases involving burglaries in La Plata County. In 2009, Garcia pleaded guilty to the charges and began serving probation on March 9.

La Plata County’s Chief Probation Officer Chad McInnis indicated that on March 15, 2011, the probation officer in the case filed a petition to revoke. Garcia failed to appear at the April 29, 2011, court hearing on the matter and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Anyone with information concerning Garcia’s whereabouts, or about the 2008 burglaries, is asked to call Valdez at 264-8443.
