Ruth Naomi Parker, 87, formerly of 936 Walnut St., Allentown, Pa., died Monday, July 25, 2011, in the Pine Ridge Extended Care, Pagosa Springs.
She was the widow of Robert M. Parker, Sr. Born on Nov. 13, 1923, in Allentown; she was the daughter of the late Warren and Maude Gaugler. Ruth was a cafeteria worker for the Allentown School District for 10 years before retiring. Previously, she was a sales associate at the former Zollinger and Harned Department Store in Allentown. She was a lifelong member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Allentown, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and served on the ladies aide society. A life member of the Hogan’s Social Club Auxiliary, she and her husband served as Queen and King of the Allentown St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Ruth treasured the time she spent with her family; especially meaningful were the Saturday morning breakfasts and mall shopping with her niece, Helen. Ruth always had a smile on her face, enjoyed the people around her and was always ready for a good time. In her over two years residing at Pine Ridge, she enjoyed the other residents and caring staff.
Survivors: sons, Robert M. Parker, Jr., and his wife, June, of Wernersville, Pa.; Ronald C. Parker and his wife, Deborah, of Pagosa Springs; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Gaugler, of Allentown; four granddaughters; five great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years, Robert M. Parker, Sr.; a sister, Mildred, and brothers, Franklin, Wallace and Robert.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 5, in the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, 16th and Hamilton streets, Allentown, Pa. Call 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Allentown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ruth’s memory to Pine Ridge Extended Care, 119 Bastille Drive, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147.
