Ted Russell Moore, 84, died Friday, July 15, 2011, at Cedar Community, West Bend, Wisc., following a quick decline. He leaves his wife of 63 years, Delta Marie Moore; his children, Cindy, Val, Steve and Kris; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; as well as his brother and sister-in-law (C.F. and Nelwyn) and 13 nieces and nephews.
Born in Drumright, Okla., he grew up near oil fields and spent his life in the oil business. Following his discharge from the Navy in 1946, Ted attended Oklahoma State University and earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering. While in college he met and married his beloved wife, Delta. Ted worked for Cities Service Oil Company (later bought out by Occidental Petroleum) for 34 years. Many of those years were spent in south Louisiana and Tulsa, Okla., but he also assisted with oil wells in the North Sea, Amazon basin, and off the northern coast of Australia (Timor Sea). Ted always enjoyed telling stories from his world travels.
Ted was an avid golfer and greatly enjoyed the Hillcrest Golf Course in Durango during the 17 years (1986-2002) he and Delta lived in Pagosa Springs. They were active in the Grey Wolves Ski Club and Community United Methodist Church. Ted was an accomplished wood carver and enjoyed fishing. He was a dedicated weight lifter and continued to lift weights up until the last month of his life.
A memorial service will be held at a later time.
