Local golfers compete in San Luis Valley, host tourney next week

Several local golfers in the Northern New Mexico Senior Men’s Golf Association traveled to Alamosa and South Fork to a three-day golf tournament on July 12, 13 and 14.

Each day’s venue recognized several winners in a variety of flights.

On the first day at Cattails Golf Course, Alamosa, in the First Flight, Buzz Burke won Second Gross (80), and Ken Bailey won Second Gross (91) in the Third Flight. Winning Closest to the Pin on Hole No. 4 was Roger Betts.

On the second day at Rio Grande Club, South Fork, in the Championship Flight, John Hudson won First Gross (81); in the First Flight, Jerry McKee won First Gross (80); in the Second Flight, James Fluharty won First Net (70); and John Hudson also was Closest to the Pin on Hole No. 6.

On the final day at Rio Grande Club, in the First Flight, Dale Crumpton won Second Gross (86); and in the Second Flight, Ranza Boggess won Second Gross (87), while James Fluharty won First Net (66). Bill Walker was Closest to the Pin on Hole No. 6.

Pagosa student athlete Danielle Pajakwill be honored at the next Northern New Mexico Senior Men’s Golf Association tournament in one week, at the Pagosa Springs Golf Club. Danielle will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the men’s association toward her education at the college or university of her choosing.
