‘Sylvia’ held over for three shows at Center for the Arts

After several sold-out shows and rave reviews from patrons, The Thingamajig Theatre Company, the in-house production company of the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts, announces a one-week extension to the run of “Sylvia,” with performances now scheduled for Friday, July 22, through Sunday July 24.

If you missed the production during it’s four-week run, here’s your chance to see what people all over Pagosa have been talking about!

Greg and Kate have moved to Manhattan after seventeen years of child-raising in the suburbs. Greg’s career as a financial trader is winding down, while Kate’s career, as a public-school English teacher, is beginning to offer her more opportunities.

Greg brings home a dog he found in the park—or that has found him—bearing only the name “Sylvia” on her name tag. A street-smart mixture of Lab and Poodle, Sylvia becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife. She offers Greg an escape from the frustrations of his job and the unknowns of middle age. To Kate, Sylvia becomes a rival for affection. And Sylvia thinks Kate just doesn’t understand the relationship between man and dog. The marriage is put in serious jeopardy until, after a series of hilarious and touching complications, Greg and Kate learn to compromise, and Sylvia becomes a valued part of their lives.

“Sylvia,” written by A.R. Gurney and directed by Laura Moore, features Moore in the title role, Tim Moore as Greg, Lizz Baldwin as Kate and Robin Hebert as Tom/Phylis/Leslie.

Performances are Friday at 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.. Tickets are $15. Details and ticket sales available at www.pagosacenter.org. Telephone reservation line: 731-SHOW. All shows at the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts, 2313 Eagle Drive.
