Margaret Davenport Wells passed away on July 9, 2011, at the age of 93, in Durango, Colorado.
The matriarch of her family, she was born April 6, 1918, in Lubbock, Texas, to Blanche and Dee Davenport. Margaret grew up in Santa Monica, Calif., with her sister, Betty. Margaret graduated from Santa Monica High School in 1936. She attended Chouinard Art Institute where she studied fashion design.
Margaret married Charles Manley Wells, August 1939, at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Santa Monica, Calif. Margaret and Charles raised four daughters, Debra Ann, Pamela Susan, Margaret Dee and Elizabeth Jane. They lived in Pacific Palisades, Calif., until Charles’ death in 1976.
In 1978 she moved to McAllen, Texas, to assume management of the family business. Beginning in 1983 she spent her summers and holidays in her beloved Pagosa Springs, Colorado, surrounded by family.
Margaret married Bohn Feathersone in September 1995. They were happily married for six years.
In McAllen, Margaret was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church and was involved in the Vannie E. Cook Jr, Cancer Foundation, International Museum of Art & Science, South Texas Symphony, Museum of South Texas History, San Juan Diego Catholic Regional High School Project and McAllen Book Club.
She is survived by her four daughters, four sons-in-law — Don Ross, Jeff Peters, Marsh Bull and Bill Doyle — 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Jane Wells Long and faithful friend and business associate, Carol Edrington.
