Swimmers compete in Farmington before heading to OTC

The Four Corners Aquatic Team (FCAT) hosted their annual swimming invitational June 25-26 in Farmington, N.M.

Local athletes Fabiola and Valeria (V.V.) Acevedo-Auli, Katie Armbrecht, Trenton Cordova, Austin Miller, and Isabelle Pajak traveled to Farmington to represent the Pagosa Lakes Porpoises.

Fabiola competed in the Girls 9-10 age division, placing in the top 10 in all of her events, including a fourth-place finish in the 50-meter butterfly. Her older sister, V.V., competed in the 11-12 division, placing second in the 50 fly and 100 freestyle and third in the 50 free and 100 backstroke. Isabelle Pajak also swim in the 11-12 group in her first meet of the season. Pajak placed third in the 50 fly, fourth in the 100 free and fifth in the 50 free, 100 back, and the 50- and 100-meter breaststroke events.

Katie Armbrecht (age 16) joined the team for Saturday’s competition. Armbrecht placed first in the 50 fly and 200 free and second in the 50 free and 100 back.

In the male’s 11-12 age division, Trenton Cordova finished in the top five in all eight of his events. Cordova finished third in the 50 fly and 50 breaststroke, fourth in the 100 free and 50 back, and fifth in the 200 free, 50 free, 100 back and 200 IM.

Austin Miller (age 17) continued his season with top finishes, placing first in the 200 free, 200 fly, and 100 fly, and second in the 100 back, 50 fly, 400 IM, 100 free, 200 back, 50 back, and 50 breaststroke.

The Porpoises will travel to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs this weekend (July 9-10).
