Pagosa to host national art show

The Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters organization (RMPAP) selected Wild Spirit Gallery to host its 10th Anniversary Show, July 27-Aug. 7, 2011.

This will be the largest plein-air event held anywhere in the Rocky Mountain region this year.

The event showcases plein air painting, a technique in which the artist paints on-location, directly from life.

“This show will bring 42 nationally-recognized artists to Pagosa Springs. We’ve got exciting activities planned for both the artists and our community throughout the week.” said Madeline Lyon, Wild Spirit Gallery owner and event host.

“This event is sure to put Pagosa on the map as an art destination.”

Join us throughout the week:

July 27–Aug. 4: Artists paint in and around Pagosa Springs.

July 31–Aug. 1: Workshops taught by participating artists (see details below).

Friday, Aug. 5: Opening Gala Reception 5-8 PM at Wild Spirit Gallery. Artists will be in attendance.

Saturday, Aug. 6: Quick Draw, 9-11 AM, Town Park, along the river and the Visitor Center lawn area. The public can watch paintings being created, start to finish, and then bid on the resulting works at Wild Spirit Gallery beginning at noon. Five percent of the sales at the Quick Draw event will be donated to FAMA, the Fine Art Magnet Academy at Pagosa Springs High School.
