Swimmers Swim-A-‘Ton’ at the annual Lap-A-Thon

Thanks to the generosity of many local businesses and families, the Pagosa Lakes Porpoises Swim Team was able to raise money to help pay for equipment, coaching fees, meet entry fees, and other team expenses.

Young athletes gathered pledges before diving into the pool on Tuesday, June 7, to swim as many laps as possible in a two-hour time period. Many high school swimmers were able to complete the 5,000-yard maximum (200 lengths of the pool), and several younger swimmers completed over 120 lengths.

Fund-raising events such as the Lap-A-Thon and the annual Turkey Trot are vital to the success of youth programs in Pagosa. Without the support and sponsorship of our community, many of these young athletes would not be able to participate.

The Porpoises display a banner, both at swim meets and at the recreation center, featuring the names of their sponsors. We welcome new sponsors and would be delighted to include your name or organization on our banner.
