The Archuleta County Veterans Service Office will be closed for normal veteran services from May 23 to June 12.
During this period I will have access to my county e-mail, email@example.com. I will be able to access the vehicle schedule calendar, e-mails, answer e-mails, etc.
Veterans who need to schedule one of the VSO Vehicles for VA Health Care appointments during this period should send that request complete with name, phone number, date of departure and date of return, and destination. You will receive a reply with a vehicle number assignment if one is available. Also, if you need a volunteer driver to take you to your appointment, you can e-mail that information and I can make the arrangement from a remote location.
My replies to your e-mails during my absence will usually be in the evening hours.
If you do not have e-mail at home, you can access the Internet free at the Archuleta County Senior Center and the Ruby Sisson Libraryduring normal hours, or perhaps you have a friend with a computer and Internet.
E-mails to this office will get top priority in response. It is much more cost and time efficient for our cash-strapped county budget, and no phone tag!
As a last resort, you can call my office phone, 264-4013, and leave a message with your complete information, as above. I might have access to my phone messages, but this is uncertain at the time of this writing. Besides, listening to phone messages requires writing down the information, often re-listening to message because of poor quality, I may be traveling, and then I still have to go my e-mail calendar to figure out the vehicle schedule. Bottom line is, please use e-mail.
The keys to the VSO vehicles will be available in the Senior Center lunchroom Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday between the hours of 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. See Rob at the lunchroom welcoming desk for your key. It is your responsibility to obtain the keys during those hours the day before your travel schedule. Keys should be dropped off in the blak key lockbox outside and to the left of the Senior Center entrance when your return. Please, do not ask for keys at any other time.
There may be occasions when my volunteer VSO assistant Tom Sorensen will be in the office. He will return phone calls and handle routine VSO information. Call the office number, 264-4013, before coming to the office.
All other issues regarding VA Claims and benefits and travel pay will have to wait for my return. I will make retroactive travel payments during this period.
Speaking of VAHC travel money, we will be going back to the Gas Card System upon my return for most of the summer.
Final word, use Internet e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org) for the fastest possible connection and service to the VSO Office.
