One of the highlights of this incredible first year was the Colored Chords fund-raiser held April 21. Thanks to Christine Funk and her team for putting together a great collaboration between the artists of this community and our young musicians. Because of her efforts, over $8,000 was raised. The money will be used to create a recording studio in the band room of the high school, as well as to bring in professional guest artists to work with the students. This project also involved PHTV teacher Darcy Deguise and her students, as well as art teacher Janet Knocke and her advanced art students. Thanks to all the artists who donated their time to decorate old unplayable guitars/fiddles into beautiful pieces of art: David Burch, Syl Holly Lobato, Denise Chaney, Val Fulco, Addi Greer, Emily Tholberg, Monica Green, Jenn Slind, Chris Haas and Ursala Hudson, Donna Merchant Crooks and high school students Isaiah Thompson and Sage Brinkman. Food was donated by Matt Degelman and desserts by Lisa Miranda-Clark. The door prize was donated by Jordan Mustill and the space provided by Wild Spirit Gallery. Contributers included Jack and Claudia Rosenbaum, Lisa Oney, Lisa Scott, Crista Munro, Laura Daniels, Ronnie Doctor, Kitzel Farrah, Andrea Lyle, Heidi and Jake Koch, Linda Love and Siri and Joseph Schuchardt. Also, thanks to Becky Deitemeyer and Joe Maloney at Kip’s for their sponsorship. On behalf of the students past, present and future, thank you to all who made this fund-raiser a great success. Music is a powerful thing.
The La Plata-Archuleta Cattlemen’s Association, the banquet committee and the scholarship recipients would like to thank everyone who donated items for the silent auction and also a big thank you to those of you who participated in the auction. The auction has been a great success over the years as a fund-raiser for the scholarships that have been awarded to graduating seniors. Thank you to all of those who purchased tickets for the banquet and dance, as well.
Just a reminder: be sure and mark your calendars July 30 for the chuckwagon cook off in Durango at the Senior Center Park in conjunction with the Fiesta.
A special thank you goes to Helen Moore for all the work she has done for the La Plata-Archuleta Cattlemen’s Association. Helen has served as a director for Archuleta County since the merger of Archuleta and La Plata counties cattlemen into one organization. She has always been available and ready to do more than her share. Just recently, she decided to step down as a director, and Gary Everett has been elected to fill the position. Her expertise and dedication will certainly be missed.
