Obituary-Steve Paul Martinez

Steve “Stevie” Paul Martinez was born Jan. 23, 1972, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, April 20, 2011.

Preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Marie Jiminez, survived by his father, Lucas Martinez (Salt Lake City, Utah); his children, Lillian Clifford (Salt Lake City), Mickel Clifford (Salt Lake City), and Stevie Mae Martinez — his little mariposa (Pagosa Springs). He also had a special relationship with his stepchildren, EJ, Ryan, Andy and Christopher, all of Pagosa Springs. Also survived by his siblings, Rocky Martinez (Nancy), Pagosa Springs, Gina Burbank (Jeff), Valerie Jardine (Jeff), Krista Hooks (Greg), and Joel Martinez, all of Salt Lake City. Steve shared a very special relationship with Maritza Vasquez and her children, Arianna, James and Apryl. Steve is loved by many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He touched many lives with his caring heart and his very funny personality. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Steve could light up any room he was in and accepted everybody that he came across in life. He never judged anyone. Steve loved to sing and bring happiness to everyone he knew. He was raised in Pagosa Springs by his grandparents, Daniel and Susie Garcia, whom he also considered as his second parents. He graduated from Pagosa Springs High School in 1990. Steve loved to cook and work in his garden. He was a man of many trades, but his passion was for the mountains in Colorado, where he was an outfitter and guide.

Steve will be missed by many and will never be forgotten. We will miss our “Mountain Man.” He now belongs to Jehovah God. He closed his eyes and fell asleep and, in a twinkling of an eye, he will wake up in Paradise to be with his many loved ones that passed before him.

The family of Steve Martinez would like to thank the ICU staff at Intermountain Medical Center for the special care they gave to our dear Stevie. Especially his Nurse ROB. Steve’s wishes were to be taken back home to his beloved Pagosa Springs, where a memorial service will be held at a later date, yet to be decided.
