Geneva Marie Velarde peacefully passed away in her sleep at her home in Dallas, Texas on the afternoon of Feb. 28, 2011. She was loved by many and will be missed.
Geneva was born on Feb. 4, 1952, in Trinidad, Colo., to Mary and Trevino Sanchez. She lived in Pagosa Springs until 1991, when she moved to Dallas.
Geneva was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in her early 30s and spent the remainder of her life coping with the debilitating disease. She loved to sing and dance. She was a very spiritual person and believed in helping people in need and showing compassion to all.
Geneva is survived by two sons, David Velarde of Dallas, Texas, Dale Velarde of Vista, Calif., and two daughters, Danielle Velarde-Milby of Temecula, Calif., and Dana Velarde of Sedona, Ariz. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Ella Velarde, Madeline and Meredith Milby, and Alyssa and Cameron Lewis. Her life partner, Joseph Dilorenzo, also survives Geneva.
