Mildred Nordmann passed away March 8, 2011, in Pagosa Springs at the age of 96. She was born on Feb. 5, 2015, in LaGrange, Ill., to Ernest and Ellen Forslund. She was third of five children with two brothers, Ernest and Robert and two sisters, Marjorie and Ruth. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arnold, and her four brothers and sisters.
Mildred grew up in LaGrange, Ill., where she graduated from Lyons Township High School. At age 23, she married Arnold Nordmann of Hinsdale, Ill., and the couple moved to Western Springs, Ill., where they raised two sons, Gary and Robert. They lived in Western Springs until Arnold’s retirement from Burroughs Corp. in 1972, after which they moved to Venice, Fla., and then to Escondido, Calif., where they stayed for 20 years, enjoying spending time outdoors in the sunny climate. The couple also lived in North Texas. Mildred spent her final 10 years living in Pagosa Springs to be near family.
Mildred was tremendously dedicated to her family. She loved to spend time with her brothers and sisters and help them in any way she could. She was a most loving mother to her sons and supported them in all their endeavors. She and Arnold were devoted to one another, and enjoyed 67 years of marriage. Everyone who knew her remembers her sweetness and loving manner.
Mildred is survived by her children Gary Nordmann and wife Carol of Spring Island, S.C., and Robert Nordmann and wife Janet of Pagosa Springs, her grandchildren, Brent Nordmann and wife Stefanie of Valencia, Calif., Tyson Nordmann of Smithville, Texas, and Leila Nordmann of Cambridge, Mass., and her great granddaughter, Madeleine Nordmann.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff of Pine Ridge Extended Care Facility of Pagosa Springs for the exceptional care and compassion they gave Mildred during her last years.
A memorial service will be held near Mildred’s home town in Illinois later this spring.
