Adult basketball leagues gearing up, register now

Adult basketball schedules are available at the recreation office in Town Hall and can be downloaded through the recreation department link at www.townofpagosasprings.com.

Managers are reminded that team registration fees are $200 per team, plus a $25 fee per player. Team and player fees are due at the start of each team’s second game. Also, numbered jerseys of similar color are required attire for participation in this year’s leagues.

Rosters may carry as many as 15 players; players are eligible to participate if they were 16 years of age or older as of March 1. Players may be added to the roster at any time throughout the season, but participants who have not paid the player fee before the start of their second game will not be permitted to play.

The season will run through late April. Call the recreation office at 264-4151, Ext. 231, for more information.

Register for tee-ball

The Town of Pagosa Springs Recreation Department will accept registrations for this year’s tee-ball league from March 16 through March 31.

Any child who will be 5 or 6 years old as of April 1 is eligible to participate. Registrations will be available at the recreation office in Town Hall and will be dispersed at local schools, as well.

Registrations will also be available for download in Adobe format through the recreation department link at www.townofpagosasprings.com.

Cost is $30 per player and $15 for each additional child in the same, immediate family who participates. Weather permitting, the season is tentatively scheduled to begin in mid-April.

Coaches and sponsorships for this year’s tee-ball teams are also needed and appreciated. Cost for sponsorship is $150, which includes sponsor’s name on team uniforms, commemorative plaque with team picture, and recognition in media articles.

For more information, call the recreation office at 264-4151, Ext. 231 or 232.

Skate pond

Due to deterioration of surface conditions caused by higher temperatures, the skate pond behind the River Center has been closed for the season.

Ice-thickness levels have become unsafe, and signs have been posted to inform the public of the potential danger.

Tree recycling

The Town of Pagosa Springs is again conducting a Christmas tree recycling program. Trees to be recycled can be dropped off at a newly-designated site at the south end of South Fifth Street any time between now and the end of March.

Look for the signs directing recyclers to the collection area. The parks department asks that recyclers remove all lights, tinsel and ornaments before leaving trees. The parks department will chip the collected trees into mulch to be used for various landscaping projects in the town parks during the coming season.

Thank you for participating in this worthwhile undertaking; for more information, call the parks office at 264-4151, Ext. 233.
