William Kenneth McCoy, 77, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at his home in Farmington, N.M.
Born June 28, 1933, to William Earl and Laura Mae “Peggy” McCoy in Bayfield, he graduated from Bayfield High School in 1952 and spent a short time attending Fort Lewis College where he said “College was not for him.” Shortly after leaving college, Kenneth enlisted for four years in the U.S. Air Force, and was stationed in Greenland and Clovis, N.M.
During his enlistment Kenneth met and married Joan Turner in Aztec, N.M. After his honorable discharge in Clovis, N.M., they moved back to Bayfield in 1957.
Kenneth was employed by the LaPlata Electric Association beginning April 1957 until his retirement after 38 years in 1995.
He later moved to Bloomfield, N.M., then to Clayton, N.M., then back to the Farmington area.
Kenneth is survived by daughters, Debra (Harold) George of St. Francis, Kans., and Sherre (Leo) Pacheco of Blanco, N.M.; son, Todd (Shelly) McCoy of Ignacio, Companion Betsy Fahrion, her children Tammie (Jack) Nelson and Whitney Crawley (Kelly Miller); nine grandchildren, six great-grand children; a sister, Earleen (Billie) Carroll of Farmington, N.M.; brother, Donnie McCoy of Bayfield; aunt Lavenia McCoy of Bayfield; mother-in-law, Opel Turner of Buckeye, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Beverly Leas, of Buckeye, and brother-in-law, Ronald Turner (Charlotte) of Salt Lake City, Utah;numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joan of 51 years, his parents Earl and Peggy, his father-in-law Leland Turner, sister-in-law Juanell McCoy, and brothers-in-law Bob Jimmerfield and “Toad” Leas.
Services were held Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at the Church of Christ in Bayfield.
