Silent auction to benefit Destination Imagination

Pagosa’s Destination Imagination students promise an action-packed Saturday at the Box and Ball Indoor Soccer Tournament, featuring a silent auction with an amazing selection of valuable items.

Pagosa Springs Middle School’s gyms open at 8 a.m. DI supporters will be registering soccer teams and fueling the crowd with a great homemade breakfast. The public can bid on silent auction items all day Saturday. Bidding closes at 6 p.m.

DI’s silent auction offers a basketball package with a new NBA basketball and a signed copy of Kareem Abdul Jabar’s latest book, “On the Shoulders of Giants.” The basketball legend spoke at an education conference in Denver recently and wrote, “Go Pirates! Abdul Jabar,” in this advance copy of his sixth book. The black mesh bag of basketball goodies also contains an audio book of four CDs with notable interviews and a jazz soundtrack, a shooting sleeve, a poster and a string backpack.

Generous merchants have contributed a framed Western print and an ornamental stone cross. For the kitchen, you’ll find a set of dishes, placemats and an electric skillet. Meals at Pagosa restaurants, a spa soak and hotel rooms will be on the silent auction tables. You can choose from a variety of See’s Old Style Candies, specially wrapped for easy Valentine’s Day gift giving.

Cross country ski rentals and two Wolf Creek lift tickets offer fun in the outdoors. A soccer package includes soccer balls and soccer clothing in a mesh equipment bag.

Donations are still being collected by Pagosa’s seven Destination Imagination teams. You can support this academic competition by stopping by the middle school Saturday to watch some fast-paced soccer, to enjoy some homemade concessions and to bid on great deals at the silent auction.
