‘Pagosa Sounds’ showcase Feb. 4

“Pagosa Sounds,” a showcase concert, takes place at 7 p.m., Feb. 4, at the Ross Aragon Community Center. The concert features an all-star cast of Pagosa performers, including Natalie Oman, Johnny K, The Big ’Uns, John Graves, The Gypsy Moon Ensemble, Larry Elginer, Jessica Peterson, Roberts Neel, June Marquez, Paul and Carla Roberts, Jim Horky, Samantha Hunts, Laith Scherer, Chanlor Humphrey, Amanda Burch, Lisa Foreman and Michael Mull.

A pre-concert social begins at 6 p.m., with costumed characters, dancers, live music, free desserts, snacks and coffee and a beer/wine cash bar. Please bring desserts and snacks to share, if you wish. Food contributions will be collected for local food banks.

Natalie Oman is a film and stage actress, singer, video producer, writer and teacher. Oman will emcee and perform at the concert with her husband, Johnny K.

“I’m excited to be part of this show because it blends so many talents of Pagosans,” she says. “Having dancers, musical jugglers, various styles of music, encouraging children to participate – I think it will be a dynamic atmosphere of creativity and fun.”

Although a relative newcomer to the Pagosa scene, Oman’s performances have already been a huge source of inspiration. Her naturally charming stage presence, mellifluous voice and distinctive laugh have a very engaging effect on audiences.

When asked what it’s like for her as a performer, she says, “It feels like home because it feels like what I’m meant to do. Although I generally tend to be an introvert, there’s something about being on stage that feels so natural.”

Oman says she loves the atmosphere of small-town living in Pagosa, having grown up in the small town of Eau Claire, Wis.

From one perspective, “Pagosa Sounds” can be seen as a small-town variety show. From another, it’s an assemblage of multigenerational talent, the likes of which any town or city in America would be proud to be able to present. Please join us for “Pagosa Sounds” on Feb. 4.

Advance tickets are available at Higher Grounds and the community center for $10. Tickets at the door are $12. Young people, 18 and under, are admitted free. The Ross Aragon Community Center is located at 451 Hot Springs Blvd. For further information, call the community center at 264-4152.
