Donald “Donnie” Duane Espinosa died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango, Colo. He was 36.
Mr. Espinosa was born Oct. 30, 1974, in Denver, Colo., son of Samey and Mary Espinosa. He grew up in Denver and Idaho Springs. The family later moved to Durango. After Donnie graduated from Durango High School, he attended Pueblo Community College. He married Wendy Dawn Miller May 16, 1998, in Bayfield.
Mr. Espinosa worked in the gas industry for Samson Resources. He served as a Boy Scout Leader and he was a member of the Bayfield Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his ATV. He loved spending time with his family and children, and his two dogs Blue and Molly. Donnie fought hard against his illness as his family was by his side. Every ounce of his energy was given to survive and he fought a brave fight.
Mr. Espinosa is predeceased by grandparents Sigfred and Ramona Salas, and Frank and Connie Espinosa.
Donnie is survived by his wife Wendy and children Samantha, Michaela, Brecken and Trenton Espinosa of Bayfield; mother Mary Espinosa-Salas of Pagosa Springs; father Samey Espinosa of Durango; brothers Frank (Ava) Espinosa of Tiffany, Colo.; Paul (Leah) Espinosa of Bayfield; and Clarance (Angie) Espinosa of Pagosa Springs; sister Jennifer (Travis) Sutherland of Redvale, Colo.; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bayfield, with Bishop Bruce Edmonds officiating. Burial occurred at Pine River Cemetery.
