Sally M. Gale passed away the day before Thanksgiving, never waking from a diabetic coma. Sally was a resident of Pagosa Springs since June 2006.
She is survived by her only son, Steve Smith, and his wife, Arlette Smith. Her other surviving relatives are her nieces, Norma Mai, Linda Gibson and Joyce Bozylinski. Sally has two step-grandsons by Steve’s wife, named Rory Pluth and Michael Pluth.
She was born Sept. 15, 1914, in Bisbee, Ariz., to Lulu and George Hicks. She was raised in Denver, Colo., where she graduated from Denver West High School in 1923. She was a member of the girls’ basketball team and the honor society. She attended the University of Colorado for two years. She was married to Arthur Smith in 1941 and had one son, Steve Smith. Sally worked as a dental assistant early in life, and then began her career with the University of Colorado in Boulder.
Her whole life revolved around her membership in the Queen Esther Chapter of the Eastern Star organization in Boulder. She is a past Worthy Matron, a Grand Representative to the Eastern Star National meeting in Oklahoma, a 50-year member-life member and Treasurer Emeritus.
A burial and memorial service is going to be held in Boulder at a date to be determined.
