Coyote Hill ski trails closed to motorized use

The San Juan Public Lands Pagosa Ranger District has implemented a closure to motorized use, including over-snow machines, in the area adjacent to Coyote Hill and the designated, groomed cross-country ski trails located in the area.

The closure area, consisting of approximately 985 acres of National Forest lands, is located to the north and east of Piedra Road where the paved road ends and the graveled section begins.

The area of National Forest to the south and west of Piedra Road, including the groomed snowmobile trail and Turkey Springs trailhead, will remain open to over-snow machines.

This closure order is necessary to ensure that the integrity of the routes being groomed by the Forest Service for cross-country skiing is maintained throughout the skiing season, to reduce user conflicts, and to improve the overall safety of users in the area. ?Violators will face federal citations.
