Cards of Thanks

Martinez

The family of Abel Martinez, Sr. is sincerely grateful for the prayers, visits, telephone calls, abundant food, beautiful flowers and lovely cards received from friends, neighbors and family during Abel’s illness and after he passed away. Perhaps you spoke a kind word or sat quietly in a chair; perhaps you were not there at all and just thought of us. Whatever you did to console our hearts, we thank you so very much. We are very appreciative to all of the nurses from Mercy Home Health and Hospice for their delicate and skilled care of Abel. We felt such peace and comfort from everyone’s prayers, and we were so very thankful to Father Carlos Alvarez each time he came to Abel’s bedside to pray for him and especially for the beautiful funeral mass.

We want to acknowledge the Guadalupana members for organizing and making us a wonderful meal after the funeral. Their hard work was very much appreciated. We were honored to have the American Legion Post 108 and the Colorado National Guard attend and were grateful to them for the special military tribute at the funeral and cemetery. Thank you so much to our primos, the Padilla family from Espanola, NM, for the beautiful music before and during the mass. Finally, a special thank you to Roy Vega for the touching words he shared about Abel and for giving us more of an insight on what he and his fellow service men might have gone through during World War II.

Abel would have been humbled by the outpouring of love and heartfelt sentiments expressed by everyone. We hope that he will be remembered for his dignity and the quiet love which he showed to all who knew him. Our family can’t express enough how blessed we are to live in a community where people are so thoughtful and generous. We know Abel is with our heavenly father now, but he will be dearly missed at our family table.

Youth Center

The Pagosa Springs Youth Center would like to thank Lon Hofmann and Carol Otis for their year of service with AmeriCorps and the center. With their dedication and support, the center maintained a schedule throughout the year, allowing the youth to have a fun, safe and drug-free gathering place which was the main mission of their Community Prevention Organizer positions. Carol and Lon also completed the newest version of the Archuleta County Community Resource Directory, a valuable tool for all in the community. For a copy of the directory, call the Youth Center at 264-5030. Thank you to the donors this month: Fran Smith, St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, The Colorado Trust, The Mullin Family, Community United Methodist Church Men’s Breakfast Fellowship, Loaves and Fishes and Calvary Pagosa.
